Nanotechnological effects can be used in many cases to build extremely sensitive sensors or to realize completely new analytical methods. Examples include extremely sensitive sensors based on the GMR effect, or scanning probe tools such as the scanning tunneling micosocope (STM) and the atomic force microscope, which both are used in many labs.
